Reliable Twiflex VMS, GMR, and VKSD caliper brakes from Howdon are utilised on a wide range of power generation applications, including coal-fired power plants, conveyors, gas and steam turbines, wind and tidal turbines.

MXEA electric caliper brakes from Howdon can be found on blowers and various types of fans including cooling towers. We have also provides rotor and yaw caliper braking solutions for hundreds of wind turbines around the world.

Layrub couplings are fitted to cooling tower drives, and Howdon Wedgegard® couplings for drive protection.
In addition to the other renewables solutions available from Howdon, we are able to offer Airborne Wind Energy Systems (AWES) from Svendborg.

These ground-breaking solutions differ greatly from conventional wind turbines, and need innovative braking systems. Here is how Svendborg Brakes and Stromag, part of the Altra Renewable Energy family, is able to meet these unique and specific demands.

AWES are one of the latest and most promising technologies to produce electricity from renewable resources. They use tethered aircrafts, or other flying objects, to harvest high-altitude winds that blow at heights above 300m from the ground. By exploiting the fast, persistent, and less turbulent speeds of high-altitude winds, AWES can generate power at unprecedented levels.
